June 6-Rabanal-Molinaseca

We left town in our ponchos with a little rain falling after picking up bananas and dried apricots at the store to eat. We were in a larger group of peregrinos for awhile, which was festive.

We stopped in Foncebadon for lunch after a morning of beautiful mountain scenery. The tortilla bocadillo, coffee and juice were good. This place was a mountain hut; I couldn't help but think of the yurt in Stanley. We met a 21-year-old Canadian woman who has decided to be an actress while on Camino.

We took some pictures at Cruz de Fierro-the highest point on the Camino. Unfortunately there is a lot of trash and a nearby hut covered in graffiti. Tradition dictates leaving a rock at the base of the cross to absolve sins. After this point, the town of Molinaseca was covered in a thin snow blanket.

After passing by an angry Knight Templar at Manjaria - the Knight played Gregorian chants on a cassette tape and sold a few trinkets - we had a nice meal of rabbit in the village of Acebo de San Miguel. We nearly stayed in the crumbling outpost of Riego de Ambros, but decided to move on to the Hotel Molina Real because the albergue in Riego had no hot water. The bath and laundry at the Hotel in Molinaseca were memorably good. Raul and his wife took care of us. We also ate a memorable meal at Raul's friend's restaurant while there: mushrooms, bacalao and a chocolate dessert. The wine, of course, is also great.

Quite a respite before continuing on to Ponferrada.
