June 7-Molinaseca-Ponferrada

Today was the hottest day of walking so far. It felt like walking through Marin with rolling hills of grapes and the occasional farm.

We stopped to check out a Roman fountain. Unfortunately the water wasn't potable. It was cool and inviting though.

We had a lovely rest in Camponaraya, and I also bought a larger straw hat, which now makes me quite recognizable on trail!

We were debating on whether to see the castle in Ponferrada before deciding to stay the night, but the guy at the tourist desk recommended we book an albergue right away since this is a big stop and spaces would fill up.

We stayed at Albergue San Nicholas de Flue-a lovely building with a peaceful garden although loud at night along a thoroughfare.

Since it was a shorter day of walking we had time for a menu del dia for 12 Euros. I had arroz con botillo-Spanish rice, carillos-"chin straps", and tiramisu with wine and coffee-just a regular 3-course Spanish lunch! This is an excellent part of Spanish culture.

We considered getting a taxi up the hill to see the 11th century church, but Anna said, "No taxis!" Apparently they rip off people all the time.

I bought a coin purse, we wandered around a bit more, and another day was gone.
